Bloom's Nutcracker, "Land of Sweets", is Bloom's own production of the classic holiday ballet, and it is unusual in that student dancers aged 18 and under are the primary performers. Every dancer who auditions is cast, so audition places are limited and go first come, first served.
Auditions are open to dancers aged 9 to 18 (age as of October 1) and to all Cultivate dancers; dancers must be enrolled in a ballet technique class for the season, both before the audition and throughout.
The program begins with a required week-long ballet intensive and audition in July, rehearses every Saturday from September through November (between 9:00 AM and 2:30 PM), and performs over a weekend in December.
Dancers may miss no more than two rehearsals and sign a participation contract; parents sign a communication agreement. Adults and boys can volunteer for character roles such as Drosselmeyer, the Prince, Fritz and the party parents.
This season's shows at The Garden Theater, 3125 Oak View Drive, are Friday, December 4 at 2:30 and 6:30 PM, Saturday, December 5 at 2:30 and 6:30 PM and Sunday, December 6 at 2:30 PM; reserved-seat tickets are $17 plus taxes and fees and go on sale Tuesday, November 3 at noon.
Registration for the 2027 production opens January 15, 2027 for returning families and January 19 for new families, with the intensive and audition week July 12 to 16, 2027; next season's cost and full dates are released in January.
